Sen. Nancy Jacobs Not Seeking Re-Election

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- State Sen. Nancy Jacobs says she will not seek re-election next year.

The 61-year-old Republican senator who represents Cecil and Harford counties made the announcement Tuesday in a news release. She says the difficult decision was made after nearly a year of thoughtful consideration, prayer and discussion with her family.

Jacobs, who has been an advocate for children while in the Maryland General Assembly, says she will continue working hard to represent her constituents for her remaining 18 months in office.

Jacobs was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1994. She was elected to the state Senate in 1998. In 2011, she was elected Senate minority leader.

Last year, she lost her bid for a congressional seat to incumbent Democratic Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger.
