KEEDYSVILLE, Md. (AP) — Players and scholars of 19th century American banjo music are gathering at the Antietam National Battlefield for a weekend of performances and presentations.

The annual Antietam Early Banjo Conference begins Friday at the Pry House Field Hospital Museum near Keedysville.

The event includes a screening of a film about the American music librarian who documented the banjo’s African origins.

Saturday’s agenda includes a presentation about minstrel show music followed by a concert that is open to the public.
