Jose Antonio Vargas Immigration Film Premieres In D.C.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A documentary by a former Washington Post journalist, exploring the past two years since he revealed he was living in the country illegally, is premiering at Washington's AFI Docs Film Festival.

Jose Antonio Vargas wrote and directed the film, "Documented." In 2011, Vargas revealed he has been living in the country illegally since he was brought to the U.S. from the Philippines as a child.

The film premieres Friday night at the National Portrait Gallery. It explores Vargas' advocacy for immigration reform as well as his private challenges in being separated from his mother for 20 years. He was sent to live with his grandparents at age 12.

Vargas grew up in California where teachers helped him gain college admission and employment. He eventually landed a Washington Post internship.
