Man Charged In 1982 Slaying In Laurel

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police have charged a 68-year-old man in the 1982 slaying of a Laurel woman.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant on Friday for John Ernest Walsh charging him with 1st-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Stefanie Sue Watson of Laurel. Walsh is imprisoned in the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover on unrelated charges.

Police say Watson disappeared July 22, 1982 after leaving home to work a night shift at a hospital.

She was reported missing the next day, and her car was found four days later.

Blood stains found in the car were collected.

Watson's body was found in a wooded area in Laurel in September 1982.

In March, detectives had DNA evidence from Watson's case tested. Authorities say a match was made to Walsh.
