Detective Dragged 60 Feet With Arm Trapped In Car

PASADENA, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel County police have charged a man with attempted murder after they say he drove off when a detective tried to open his car door, dragging the officer about 60 feet.

Officers tried to check a car about 10:40 p.m. Monday. Police ordered the driver to get out of the vehicle, but he refused.

Authorities say when the detective reached into the car to unlock the driver's door, the driver drove away with the detective's arm trapped inside.

Police say the detective was dragged about 60 feet before falling in the road. The car stopped, and the driver was arrested.

The Capital of Annapolis reports that 18-year-old Brian Hafer of Pasadena is charged with 19 offenses.

Hafer and the detective were treated and released at a local hospital.
