BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A Baltimore Raven was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint. It happened to running back Bernard Pierce on Sunday night in Philadelphia.

Mary Bubala reports he wasn’t hurt but police are still searching for the suspect.

He helped lead the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl title but Bernard Pierce was not immune to crime on the streets of a major city. He was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night on the streets of Philadelphia.

“I think he was targeted because people knew who he was and that’s sad,” said his mother, Tammy Pierce.

The carjacking and robbery happened on Haverford Avenue in northwest Philadelphia. Pierce and a friend were getting into his new BMW when a gunman threatened them, and then took his wallet and car.

“He lost everything. He doesn’t have keys to his place, he doesn’t have keys to anything, so he doesn’t have his driver’s license or anything. Everything was taken,” said Tammy Pierce.

The car was later recovered in another part of the city and is being processed by police for any possible evidence that might lead to a suspect.

Pierce was in Philadelphia visiting his family home in Ardmore.

The standout at Temple University was drafted by the Ravens last year and is expected to have an even bigger role with the team this year.

His mom is glad he will have the chance.

“Thank God that he’s fine so I don’t care [that] he lost his car, whatever was in there,” said Tammy Pierce. “It could have turned out to be a whole different ballgame.”

The Baltimore Ravens released a statement saying they are aware of the situation and they are in touch with Pierce.

Pierce’s agent doesn’t believe he was targeted; he thinks it was a crime of opportunity.
