Cumberland Fireworks Go On As Originally Planned
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- There's good news in Cumberland for residents celebrating Independence Day: the annual fireworks show is back on at its original location.
The Times-News of Cumberland reports that the popular fireworks display will proceed Thursday night at Constitution Park.
Mayor Brian Grim announced Wednesday that the show would go on 100 yards from the original launch site at the park.
The city had been forced to relocate to a school baseball field after the state fire marshal said Constitution Park was too close to the Allegany County 911 Center.
But Grim says the vendor didn't meet insurance requirements for private land at the school.
He says the new launch site will be 100 yards from the original launch site and that the city has the fire marshal's approval.
