Howard County Police Officer Indicted For Assault

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) -- Howard County Police say an officer had been indicted on a charge of second-degree assault.

Chief William J. McMahon said in an email statement on Friday that Pfc. Lawrence Cameron Cook, a 7-year veteran with the department, has been suspended with pay.

The indictment against Cook was returned Wednesday, according to online court records. The charge stems from a March 18 incident, but McMahon did not provide details.

The court records did not list a lawyer for Cook.
