Man Charged With Firing Gun During Fight

CLEAR SPRING, Md. (AP) -- A 31-year-old man has been charged with first-degree assault after police say he fired shots at an acquaintance during a fight in Clear Spring.

The shots were fired around 1 a.m. Saturday. State police say 31-year-old Daniel Lapole of Big Pool was fighting with 43-year-old George Rodgers of Clear Spring when Rodgers approached Lapole with a large pipe wrench.

Police say Lapole grabbed a handgun and climbed into his vehicle. Police say Lapole fired several shots at Rodgers as Rodgers was running away.

In addition to first-degree assault, Lapole is charged with reckless endangerment and handgun offenses. Police say the two men are acquaintances and that no one was injured by the gunshots.
