2 Men Emerge From Comas After Md. Lightning Strike

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Family members say two Anne Arundel County men who may have been struck by lightning have emerged from medically induced comas.

Family members tell The Capital that 19-year-old John Conner Benson and 23-year-old Alex Steele remain on the critical care floor at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Ron Steele, Alex Steele's father, says it's a miracle how the two have progressed. He says they were surprised to see them come out of the coma on Friday.

Both men regained consciousness and spoke in short sentences on Friday.

The men were severely injured by a possible lightning strike Wednesday on a beach along the Severn River. Emergency responders found them unconscious outside a home on River Drive in Annapolis.
