New Anne Arundel Police Chief Sworn Into Office

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Kevin Davis is sworn in as the new police chief in Anne Arundel County.

The former assistant chief in Prince George's County will took the oath of office Tuesday morning.

Davis takes over a department whose reputation suffered from its association with the previous county executive, John Leopold.

Former chief Larry Tolliver resigned in May, saying the move was unrelated to an investigation of complaints that he retaliated against officers who testified against Leopold. An investigation also found that Tolliver had used an anti-gay slur at work.

Leopold resigned early this year after pleading guilty to misconduct in office.

County Executive Laura Neuman has said she's confident that under Davis' leadership, the department "will be restored with the pride and professionalism it once had."
