Man Arrested On Sandbar After Wild Police Chase

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- A man has been arrested after authorities say he led officers from half a dozen police agencies on a car chase from Delaware into Maryland.

Ocean City police were notified by officials in Sussex County, Del., around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday about authorities pursuing a vehicle into Ocean City. The vehicle was seen on Coastal Highway, where it hit a car, continuing traveling, hit another car, then crashed into a utility pole.

Authorities say the driver fled the scene and stole a bicycle, which he rode behind the Gold Coast Mall. Officers say the man jumped into the bay and started swimming away.

Authorities arrested the man on a sandbar after subduing him with non-lethal devices.

Twenty-three-year-old Brian A. Kriss of Illinois was arrested. Charges are pending in Maryland and Delaware.
