Md. Man Charged With Striking, Shooting At His Girlfriend

FRIENDSHIP, Md. (WJZ)— An armed man was arrested after allegedly striking and shooting at his girlfriend early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to 300-block of Friendship Road in Friendship at around 1:45 a.m.

The victim, a 41-year-old woman, called into 911 stating that her boyfriend struck her with an object in the home, causing to her to fall to the ground and later shot at her. The victim reported that she ran from the residence and was attempting to get into her vehicle when multiple shots were fired by the suspect. All of the rounds hit the vehicle and she was able to drive to a nearby residence to call police.

When officers, K-9 and aviation arrived at the location, they attempted to enter the residence, but all the doors were locked. It was determined that the suspect was still inside the residence. A perimeter was set up around the residence and attempts were made to contact the suspect. S.O.S was notified in reference to a possible barricade situation.

John Brice Clagett, 44, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Within an hour, Clagett was placed under arrest without incident after he came out of wooded area behind the residence was armed with a shotgun and pistol.

Numerous other weapons were seized from the residence and the investigation into their legality is ongoing.
