Fire Damages Chapel At Mount St. Mary's University
EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) -- A fire has damaged the bell tower of a chapel at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg.
The blaze began Friday night at the schools' Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. The university's public safety director, Barry Titler, says a student called campus police at about 8:30 p.m. to report seeing lightning strike the chapel's bell tower.
The university's website says the chapel opened in 1910 and underwent renovations that were completed in 2011.
The university's president, Thomas H. Powell, says the school will rebuild.
