ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — Another accident snarled traffic on the westbound span of the Bay Bridge. The westbound span of the Bay Bridge has reopened after being closed for almost two hours.
Accorded to officials, it occurred Monday afternoon on the bridge, approximately a mile and a half from the western shore of Maryland.
Several cars were involved in the accident; a van got the brunt of the damage. At least two people have been taken to hospitals; one was medevaced to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries and one was taken by ambulance to a different hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.
The cause of the accident is not known.
The westbound span of the Bay Bridge was closed for almost two hours and traffic is backed up. Backups extended almost to Kent Island Narrows. Eastbound lanes were also backed up.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible because even side roads are backed up.
In a separate incident, a 14-month-old toddler temporarily stopped breathing on the eastbound span of the Bay Bridge. That child is now breathing again. It’s not known what caused the child to stop breathing.
