2 Captured After Escape From Juvenile Facility

WESTERNPORT, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say two 17-year-old boys escaped from the Backbone Mountain Youth Center in Garrett County, but were captured within hours.

The Cumberland Times-News reports that an Allegany County deputy sheriff and deputies and officers from other agencies found the teens in Westernport on Tuesday morning.

Deputy Israel Sibley says he took the two Westminster teens to the Maryland State Police barrack at McHenry for processing.

State police were alerted early Tuesday that the teens had escaped from the facility in Swanton and alerted other police agencies that the teens had tried to steal a truck in Bloomington.

About six hours after police were first alerted, Sibley says the teens were found walking through a concrete culvert near the bridge in Westernport. He says they fled, but were quickly apprehended.
