WMDT-TV Announces Sale To Md. Media Firm

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- A Montgomery County media company is buying the Eastern Shore's WMDT-TV, an ABC affiliate station.

WMDT-TV announced Thursday that Brookeville-based Marquee Broadcasting, Inc. had reached an agreement to acquire the assets and operations of the Salisbury-based station from Delmarva Broadcast Service, LLC. The station, which is also affiliated with the CW Television Network, reaches viewers from north of Dover, Del., to Accomack County, Va.

Marquee President Patricia Lane says the $9 million deal represents the company's first television station purchase. WMDT-TV says final approval of the license assignment and sale closing are expected in several months.

The station went on air in 1980 and has been owned by Delmarva since 1982. It was initially operated by Joseph and Marion Brechner and more recently by their son, Berl.
