Cal Ripken Jr. On Jerry Coleman's Competitive Nature

Did he really need a glove, Jerry?

Cal Ripken Jr. talks about Jerry Coleman

Cal Ripken Jr. joined Norris and Davis this morning and the guys got a little sidetracked.  It all started when, earlier in the show, Jerry Coleman sent Ed a selfie of him blowdrying his hair in front of the mirror. The guys wanted to post the picture to their Facebook page but that idea was quickly shut down by Jerry.

The guys asked Cal if he thought Jerry would ever do anything to embarrass himself. Cal laughed and then he shared the story of when Jerry criticized a throw from the right fielder during a game. Brady Anderson stood up for his teammate and asked Jerry if he thought he could make that throw. Of course with all the confidence in the world, Jerry said "Yeah, I could make it much better than that." So Brady took him out on the field and  measured it out (probably even more shallow than the actual throw was) and Cal stood at home without a glove, waiting for the toss from Jerry.

Jerry, still confident, asked Cal, "Don't you think you need a glove?" to which Cal responded through laughter, "Nope."

Jerry, "with those arms his sporting", made the throw and Cal picked up the rolling ball. He didn't make it. Cal said that just goes to show you how these professional athletes make the field feel small.
