Allegany Co. Hires Retired Officers For School Security
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Three retired police officers have been hired to serve as school security officers in Allegany County.
The Allegany County Board of Education announced the hirings on Tuesday. The three officers will provide a security rotation for schools outside Cumberland starting when classes begin Aug. 26.
The Times-News of Cumberland reports that the new security officers will wear uniforms and a badge and carry a concealed firearm. They will take a weeklong course to obtain the certifications required to teach DARE, the school system's drug awareness program.
