Spike In Heroin Deaths Reported In Montgomery County

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County police say as many people have died from heroin overdoses in the last few months as in the previous three years combined.

Police say they're investigating the spike in overdose deaths, which they call alarming.

They say at least seven deaths attributable to heroin have occurred since March, and six of those seven have happened since the beginning of June.

They say the seven deaths equal the number of overdose deaths in the county in 2010, 2011 and 2012 combined. The deaths have occurred in different parts of the county.
