10-Year-Old Autistic Boy Rescued From Water Near Dam

CLARKSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A woman whose autistic 10-year-old son was safely rescued from waters near a dam praised the several agencies that helped find him.

Karin Swenson of Clarksville reported her son Philip had gone missing around 2 p.m. Aug. 18. The Howard County Police Department sent its helicopter to search for the boy on Triadelphia Reservoir property next to the child's house. They were assisted by Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, Montgomery County police and Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission police.

Authorities say after two hours of searching, the helicopter crew, which included crew from Anne Arundel County police, found the boy at the base of the Brighton Dam. A police officer waded into the water and rescued the boy. He was uninjured.

Karin Swenson praised the cooperation and teamwork.
