Under Armour Ends Baltimore Marathon Sponsorship
BALTIMORE (AP) — Under Armour is ending its longtime sponsorship of the Baltimore Marathon.
Race organizers tell a local television station the sports apparel company decided months ago that the sponsorship would end. Race organizers have been looking for a replacement. But they say the Oct. 12 race will go on as planned, regardless.
Under Armour has spent millions on the race over 10 years. Last year, the company paid about $500,000 as the main sponsor.
Lee Corrigan, whose company operates the marathon, says Baltimore-based Under Armour decided to spend its money in the community in a different way. Last fall, Under Armour donated funds to Dunbar High School for a new athletic field.
Corrigan says this year’s race will suffer financially but is still expected to make money. About 19,000 runners have already registered.
