Federal Agencies Urged To Allow Teleworking Wednesday

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal agencies in Washington are being encouraged to allow employees to telework or use other work scheduling flexibilities on Wednesday when crowds are expected for events related to the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

The Office of Personnel Management sent a memo Friday saying agencies will be open Wednesday. But the memo from the agency's acting director said the agency "strongly urges the use of telework."

The memo says federal workers in the area should expect "significant commuting delays and travel disruptions."

Road closures and an increase in traffic are expected to affect travel during both morning and afternoon commutes.
