Stuck Log Causes 10,000 Gallon Sewer Overflow

HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission says a stuck log has caused a sewer overflow in Hyattsville.

WSSC officials say the overflow started about 12:30 p.m. Monday at 7400 Village Green Terrace. It was stopped about 3:50 p.m.

About 10,050 gallons of untreated sewage overflowed into an unknown creek in the Beaverdam Branch Basin.

A WSSC crew working nearby detected the overflow, removed the blockage and cleaned up the area. Lime will be spread, and signs have been posted warning residents to avoid the area.
