Carroll County Ends Ban On Guns At Landfills

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Carroll County is ending a decade-old ban on carrying firearms at county landfills.

The Carroll County Times reports that the county commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to reverse the prohibition at the request of the Second Amendment Foundation of Bellevue, Wash.

The gun owners' rights group aims to eliminate local firearm restrictions in 35 Maryland counties, cities and towns. It has threatened to sue local governments that don't voluntarily drop ordinances that are superseded by the state's sole authority to regulate firearms.

The foundation found a willing partner in Carroll County. The all-Republican Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution in May designating Carroll as a "Second Amendment Sanctuary County." The resolution opposes any infringement on citizens' right to bear arms.
