Monday Morning Quarterback: Mike Preston Report Card - Week 1

A special Friday edition of Monday Morning Quarterback saw the gang get back together as Ed & Steve were joined by Bruce Laird, Wally Williams, and Mike Preston on the phone from Denver.  The guys all broke down the disastrous start to the Ravens attempt to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.

Mike began the interview by talking about how tough it was to get up at 4am for this call-in, and hwo he was happy the game was over and that we still have 15 more to go.

Steve asked Mike about the Wes Welker drop that was ruled a catch and not challenged by the Ravens. Mike said that they were never shown the replay in the press box and it's highly possible that the Ravens did not see the replay in time to challenge it.

Ed asked Mike what he thought of the performance by Joe Flacco.  Mike said that Joe played well enough to win but he doesn't have the weapons around him anymore and needs to get more help. Mike's also made sure to bring up the Dallas Clark drop of a wide open touchdown, Mike gave Joe a C in his report card but the drops contributed to that grade heavily.

Steve asked Mike if he could name a turning point in the game. Mike said when a game is that one-sided there is not a turning point but the blocked punt completely sucked the life out of the Ravens and their sideline.

Wally asked Mike about the receivers and what they can do to get those guys better. Mike said there is not much you can do and that we're stuck with these guys. Mike said if Dallas Clark is your number one target you are in trouble as a team, and that Joe needs to look another way because Pitta isn't in at linebacker anymore.

Finally the guys talked about how the Jacoby Jones injury ripples through the rest of the line-up with guys like Bernard Pierce, and Lardarius Webb having to go back and risk injury as return men.
