Correctional Officer Pleads Guilty To Sex Abuse

LA PLATA, Md. (AP) -- A former correctional officer in Charles County has pleaded guilty to the sexual abuse of a minor.

Michael Anderson Hurd, 42, of Newburg entered the plea Monday. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Prosecutors say Hurd abused the child in his home between August 2009 and October 2012. Authorities say DNA from Hurd and the victim were found on sex toys in Hurd's home.

The victim said in court that the victim thought Hurd was the one person the child could trust, but that turned out not to be true.
