BALTIMORE (WJZ)— A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint by a passenger Monday night.

The 42-year-old female New Harbor Transport taxi driver picked up the suspect from the Sleep Inn parking lot located in the 6000-block of Belle Grove Road in Baltimore.

The suspect entered the taxi and told the victim that he wanted to be taken to an address on Townsend Avenue.

As the victim drove off, the suspect pointed a handgun at her and demanded money. The suspect took off with an undetermined amount of money and the driver’s cell phone. He tore the microphone from the radio before fleeing on foot toward Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard.

The victim drove from the area and called the police.

A lookout was broadcast for the suspect.  Several units from Northern District, K-9 and the Aviation Unit checked the area for the suspects and vehicle, but didn’t have any luck.

The victim was not injured during the armed robbery.

The investigation is ongoing.
