Ticket Sales Fall Short, Halting Md. Home Raffle
MIDDLETOWN, Md. (AP) -- The organizers of a raffle for a Middletown home say they've canceled the drawing because ticket sales fell short.
The Middletown Dream Home raffle was to take place Friday. Organizers say they sold 4,300 tickets but needed to sell 6,000 to make the raffle for the $475,000 home work.
The Middletown High School Sports Club, which was organizing the raffle, had said proceeds were going to go to pay off loans for a stadium renovation project at the school and fund future improvements.
Tickets were selling for $100 each. The sports club's president says ticket holders can get a refund or make a tax-deductible donation to the club.
