GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) — Residents in Germantown have been awaiting the grand opening of a new Wegmans grocery store.
About 1,000 people were lined up outside the new store at 7 a.m. for the opening Sunday. Store manager Phil Quattrini says they were out of shopping carts about 20 minutes later.
The store is located in the new Seneca Meadows Plaza in Germantown, off Interstate 270. The store is 123,000 square feet and has about 70,000 products to choose from.
The Wegmans in Germantown includes a coffee shop, a cheese shop, a seafood market, a kosher deli, a pizza shop and an Asian food bar. The store also has an entire section devoted to gluten-free products.
It’s also equipped with more than 24 checkout lanes to keep customers from waiting too long in line.
