Howard County Officer Hurt In Crash

MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Howard County Police say they are investigating whether a man fell asleep at the wheel before his pickup truck struck a police cruiser stopped along Interstate 70.

Police say Pfc. Neil White pulled over a Ford Focus on westbound I-70 in the Marriottsville area on Monday night.

During the traffic stop, police say a Chevrolet truck hit the cruiser, which was then pushed into the rear of the Ford. The 38-year-old officer was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where police say he is in stable condition. The drivers of the car and truck were not injured.

Police say they are investigating the possibility that the driver of the truck fell asleep just before the crash.
