Ravens Donate New Rides & Gear To City Police
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore's Super Bowl champs gift the police department with new rides and gear.
Christie Ileto explains why the team is thanking the city's blue line.
A dozen new jackets and three new Harley Davidsons for the city's police motorcycle fleet. The Baltimore Ravens are helping them fight crime.
"It's good for them to get recognized like they should," said linebacker Jameel McClain.
McClain says it's the team's way of thanking officers for their service.
"Those guys, they take care of us. It's only right we take care of them back," he said.
"We have equipment needs, technology needs, and when we have corporations like the Ravens replacing our vehicles, that's huge for us," said Police Commissioner Anthony Batts.
While police crack down on city crime, the force also plays a critical role on game day security. In fact, a number of retired officers are members of the team's security staff.
"The police department does a lot for us, as far as helping us get from points A to B. They do a lot for visiting teams, as well," said Darren Sanders.
The motorcycles won't just be used to fight crime but also for things like crowd control at the stadium on game day and also, if and when, we have another Super Bowl parade.
"Next year, when we have the next Super Bowl parade, we'll have the motorcycles out," Batts said.
And when that happens, Batts says the new motorcycles will be helping with traffic and pedestrian safety.
This isn't the first time the Ravens have made a donation to a police department. After winning the Super Bowl, they gifted the New Orleans police department with two motorcycles, as well.
