Double Shooting Victims In Middle River Are Father & Son

MIDDLE RIVER, Md. (WJZ)—Two men are shot inside a Middle River home. One of them was in a wheelchair, and police say they were targeted.

Meghan McCorkell has more on the search for the gunmen.

Police surrounded a Middle River home Wednesday around 4:40 p.m.

"It's scary. It makes you want to keep your kids in the house," said neighbor Kelly Scates.

Investigators combed the community on Southorn Road after two men were found shot inside a house. Friends identify them as father and son Butch and Brandon Jewell.

"It's breaking my heart that something like this happened to him," said Steven Street.

Street, a longtime family friend, says Brandon Jewell--who's in his late 20s--is in a wheelchair.

"When it comes down to it, it's heartless. I mean, he is the kindest person that I know. Why would someone do that to Brandon?" Street said.

The shooting appears to be a robbery attempt and detectives say the thieves knew what they were after.

"Right now, we continue to investigate. It does look like these victims were targeted," said Baltimore County Police Officer Shawn Vinson.

Neighbors say the armed robbers broke in through the back of the house off an alley. Witnesses say they saw suspects running down that alley with a shotgun after the shooting.

"Once the search warrant is completed, we'll have forensics go into the house to try to determine how they got into the house," Vinson said.

Neighbors are shaken by the shooting and hope the gunmen are caught soon.

"I think they need to be thrown under a jail," said Scates.

Until they are, this community remains on edge.

Again, police believe the victims were targeted. So far, there are no arrests in the shooting.

Brandon Jewell is listed in serious condition at Johns Hopkins Bayview. Both he and his father are expected to survive.
