2 Firefighters Hurt In Shopping Center Blaze

NORTH EAST, Md. (AP) -- State fire officials say two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling a three-alarm blaze that tore through a shopping center in Cecil County.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says the blaze was reported about 12:10 a.m. Thursday at the Northeast Plaza Shopping Center in North East. Nearly 100 fire and rescue personnel from Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania battled the blaze. It was brought under control after about 2 1/2 hours.

Authorities say the fire originated the rear storage area of a restaurant and traveled through the roof, damaging several businesses. Damage was estimated at $10 million.

Two firefighters were treated and released from a local hospital.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
