Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Mechanicsville
MECHANICSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office says a man was killed when he was hit by a truck in Mechanicsville.
It happened about 7:40 p.m. Thursday on Budds Creek Road. Deputies say several people were trying to push a golf cart across the road.
Police say most of the people were stopped in the road because of oncoming traffic, but Johnny Durtche of Dumfries, Va., walked into the path of a truck driven by James Tayman III, 28, of Mechanicsville and was hit.
Durtche, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is under investigation.
