Ruppersberger Still Looking At Md. Governor's Race

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Rep. C.A. "Dutch" Ruppersberger says he is still looking at running for governor of Maryland.

The former Baltimore County executive told The Washington Post on Tuesday that he has received encouragement in recent days in response to stories about the lack of Baltimore-area representation among the current Democratic candidates. Ruppersberger says he plans to announce a decision around Thanksgiving.

The three major Democratic candidates are from the Washington region. Attorney General Doug Gansler's running mate is from Prince George's County and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown's running mate is from Howard County. Del. Heather Mizeur has not announced a running mate yet.

Ruppersberger says he's not worried about starting months behind his competitors. He says people are "tired of long, negative campaigns."
