Man Wanted In 1989 Slaying Arrested In Ga.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say a man wanted in a 1989 slaying in Landover has been arrested in Georgia.

Police say Wayne Gilgeours, 46, was pulled over by Georgia State Police on Oct. 16 for a traffic violation. A check of Gilgeours' fingerprints showed he was wanted in Maryland.

Prince George's County police have a warrant for Gilgeours charging him with first-degree murder in the slaying of Philbert Jones.

Officers say on May 23, 1989, Jones, 22, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and later died. Authorities say the shooting was drug related.

Police say Gilgeours was identified as a suspect, but fled Maryland.

He is being held in Georgia, awaiting extradition.
