Several Injured At Howard University Homecoming Concert

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. police say several people were injured when crowds rushed the gates during a homecoming concert at Howard University.

Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump says two officers also suffered minor injuries during the incident Friday afternoon. She says police have placed the situation under control.

Kerry-Ann Hamilton, a spokeswoman for the university, says four people were hurt and one was taken to a hospital.

Fire officials say they were called to the Howard campus around 4 p.m. The university is holding an outdoor concert known as Yardfest. It is scheduled to include performances by artists including Big Sean, Juicy J and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.

A university spokeswoman says the concert resumed late Friday afternoon.

The event had been free in the past, but this year, tickets were $5.
