Sewer Main Breaks, Wastewater Flows Into Md. Creek

BROOKEVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Officials say 200,000 gallons of wastewater have flowed into the Reddy Branch Creek in Brookville after a sewer main broke.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission says crews finished repairs Wednesday evening to a 16-inch pressurized sewer main near the Reddy Branch Wastewater Pumping Station on Brighton Dam Road.

The break was discovered Tuesday evening and the pumping station was shut down.

The WSSC says that drinking water in the area is safe.
