Frederick's Mayor McClement Wins Re-Election

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Randy McClement has won a second term as Frederick mayor.

The Republican won 49 percent of the vote in the city's general election Tuesday, according to unofficial results. Democratic Alderwoman Karen Young garnered 32 percent and former Mayor Jennifer Dougherty, who ran as an unaffiliated candidate, collected 19 percent of the votes.

Of the city's 35,498 registered voters, officials say 7,648 residents cast a ballot, for a turnout of about 22 percent.

McClement told supporters that he was proud of the campaign he ran and his administration's accomplishments over four years.

Results are unofficial until the city tallies absentee ballots Thursday.
