Special Olympics Joins Catholic Charity For New Program

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Special Olympics International is launching a new program with Baltimore-based Catholic Relief Services to help serve people living with disabilities in developing countries.

The charities are announcing the new partnership Wednesday at an event in Baltimore.

Charity officials say there are about 200 million people living with intellectual disabilities worldwide. But in many countries, they are forgotten or neglected.

The new partnership will combine the network of Catholic Relief Services in nearly 100 countries with Special Olympics' expertise to identify children with intellectual disabilities and devise programs to help solve challenges they face.

Special Olympics International says it is the largest global public health organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities.
