Intentional Apartment Fire Leaves Residents Displaced

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County firefighters rescued three people from a balcony during an apartment fire in District Heights. Officials say the blaze was intentionally set.

Spokesman Mark Brady says the two-alarm fire broke out Wednesday morning in a building in the 6400-block of Pennsylvania Avenue. He says firefighters used ground ladders to rescue the people from the balcony.

About 90 personnel responded to the blaze, which was brought under control after about 20 minutes. There were no injuries.

Brady says the cause of the fire is incendiary and remains under investigation.

Damage is estimated at $350,000. Twenty residents were displaced.
