Police Officer Arrested On Sex Assault Charges

PALMER PARK, Md. (AP) — A Prince George’s County police officer has been charged in Calvert County with sexual assault and other offenses.

Lt. John Warhurst, a 21-year veteran of the department, was arrested Tuesday. Prince George’s police say they suspended him after learning of the allegations.

Online court records don’t list a lawyer for Warhurst, and he does not have a publicly listed telephone number. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month.

Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw, says in a statement that the department takes ethical and professional policing seriously.

The department says it will take administrative action against Warhurst once the criminal case in Calvert County concludes.
