Early Morning Fire Claims Elderly Man In College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County fire officials say an elderly man has been found dead after an early morning fire in College Park.

Firefighters were called to the 5200-block of Palco Place for a house fire about 5 a.m. Sunday. Fire officials say they encountered a difficult situation inside, with boxes and materials stacked from floor to ceiling in the home. That made it difficult for firefighters to move around.

An 80-year-old woman was able to get out of the two-story house. Fire officials say she was in serious but stable condition Sunday at a hospital.

An elderly man found inside the home is believed to be the 82-year-old homeowner. He was identified as Reginald Orem.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
