MANCHESTER, Md. (AP) — Manchester has a new police chief, 18 months after the previous chief resigned.

Mayor Ryan Warner nominated John Hess at Tuesday’s Town council meeting. The three council members present voted unanimously to approve Hess.

The Carroll County Times reports that Hess was sworn in right after the vote, and will start his new duties next week.

Hess, a former Baltimore police officer, has lived in Manchester since 1993. He succeeds Gerald Gall, who resigned in May 2012.
