Woman Hurt In Remote Area Lifted By Helicopter

SYKESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police removed an injured woman from a remote area by lifting her with a helicopter hoist.

Carroll County fire and EMS personnel were called to Patapsco Valley State Park near Sykesville Thursday afternoon after a woman was hurt while horseback riding.

The Carroll County Times reports that the responders feared the woman had suffered a head injury. Because of the remote location and rugged terrain, officials asked state police for an aerial patient removal.

Troopers used the state police helicopter's hoist to lower a crew member with rescue equipment to the patient's location.

With the patient secured in a rescue device, the helicopter's hoist lifted the woman and the crew member to the aircraft.

The woman was taken to Shock Trauma. Her condition was not known.
