BALTIMORE (AP) — Dylon Cormier scored 20 points and Loyola (MD) took down Fairfield 59-52 on Saturday night.
Fairfield (1-2) eliminated a 32-23 halftime deficit and took a 37-36 lead on a layup by Marcus Gilbert midway through the second half. The lead changed hands five times over the next 5 minutes, before Cormier’s three-point play gave the Greyhounds (3-0) a 45-41 lead.
The Stags responded to come within 45-43 on a Coleman Johnson jumper, but Jarred Jones hit a pair of free throws and Tyler Hubbard’s 3-pointer with 1:56 left put Loyola up 50-44.
The Greyhounds went 10 for 11 at the line in the last 5 minutes of the game to maintain the lead.
Fairfield had a 48-23 rebounding advantage, including an 18-4 advantage on the offensive boards. But the Stags committed 20 turnovers compared with 7 for Loyola.
Doug Chappell had 16 points to lead the Stags.
