MAUGANSVILLE, Md. (AP) — The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says two people have been found dead inside a fire-damaged home in Maugansville, near Hagerstown.

The fire was reported early Wednesday morning at a two-story brick home on Village Mill Drive.

The agency says firefighters found a man on the first floor and a woman in a second-floor bedroom.

The fire marshal’s office says investigators believe the blaze began in a kitchen and dining area on the first floor. They haven’t yet determined the cause of the fire.

The agency says the fire was limited to the kitchen and dining area, but there was smoke and heat damage throughout the house.

Investigators are estimating the financial loss at $18,000.
