Lt. Dan Band To Perform Concert For Navy Yard Employees

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Hollywood actor and musician is performing for employees of the Washington Navy Yard.

Gary Sinise and his musical group, the Lt. Dan Band, are playing Tuesday night at DAR Constitution Hall. The band is named after Sinise's character in the Oscar-winning 1994 film, "Forrest Gump."

The concert comes more than two months after former Navy reservist Aaron Alexis killed 12 people inside a Navy Yard building before shooting himself.

The performance is open to service members in the region, civilian employees of the Department of the Navy, contractors and their families.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus is among those officials scheduled to attend.

A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m.
