Md. Theatre Needs Additional Repairs To Ceiling

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The nearly 100-year-old Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown needs more repairs to its ceiling.

Audience members were shaken but not hurt when a chuck of plaster broke free from the upper balcony ceiling during a performance in November.  Theater Operations Manager Jessica Green tells The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that about $17,000 worth of repairs have now been completed, but another area of the ceiling has been identified as needing immediate repairs.

Green says about 186 seats in the back left section of the balcony will be closed to patrons while work is completed. The work is expected to cost more than $20,000 and is expected to be finished around Dec. 17.

The theater in downtown Hagerstown is home to Maryland Symphony Orchestra and the Miss Maryland pageant.
